Overview
Since 1984, when MSU-IIT became the first unit of the Mindanao State University System to acquire computers, the Computer Center (now renamed as the Computer Facilities and Support Services Office) has embarked on the development in-house of a number of software applications that automated various business processes and information management in campus. To date some of these applications, like the Payroll System and the Registration and Student Records Management, have undergone many upgrades and re-engineering changes not only in software but also in hardware platforms.
With the advent of the Internet in the early ’90s, a number of internet and intranet applications were also developed and implemented using Free and Open-source Software (FOSS) platforms including web applications that provide qualified users with appropriate information from the corporate database. Consequently, MSU-IIT’s corporate database was implemented using the PostgreSQL object relational database management system that comes standard and free with LINUX.
Currently, all business process and information management software applications are of the client-server model. Clients that run on any MSWindows Operating System were developed using Borland’s Delphi Architect Enterprise while web clients made use of Delphi PHP software development platforms.
As these software applications have contributed much to the attainment of systems efficiencies and quality improvement in MSU-IIT, the ICT Center has decided with the blessings of management to share these with other Institutions who are willing to make affordable investments on required and essential computer and network hardware, training, and support services fees.
